Lakewood

  • Overview of Lakewood

Nestled in the 75214 zip code of Dallas, Texas, the architecturally significant area known as Lakewood, is a wonderful place to buy a home. The Lakewood area encompasses numerous popular neighborhoods such as Caruth Terrace, Gastonwood-Coronado Hills, Hillside, Lakewood Heights, Lakewood Trails, Ridgewood Park, University Meadows, University Terrace and Wilshire Heights, among others. Lakewood proper sits west of White Rock Lake and is comprised of approximately 2,900 homes, bounded by Mockingbird Lane to the north, Gaston Road and Country Club Road to the south, Williamson Road and Winstead Road to the east and Abrams Road to the west.

The majority of homes built in Lakewood were erected in the 1920s and 1940s. Many of those original homes have since been torn down and replaced with newer, larger homes, however there are still a fair number of historic real estate options. Some are Dines & Kraft, Charles Dilbeck, C.D. Hutsell, and Anton Korn to name a few. Lakewood is known for its impressive collection of Prairie-style, Ranch, Tudors, Mid-Century moderns, Mediterranean, Spanish and Colonial homes. Lakewood is also known for its close proximity to downtown Dallas, the entertainment districts of Lower Greenville and Deep Ellum, as well as recreational opportunities around White Rock Lake. Perhaps that is why CNN named Lakewood as one of the 10 best big-city neighborhoods in the nation.

Homes for sale in Lakewood range in size from 1,200 to over 5,000 square feet. The Lakewood Conservation District includes many of the largest older homes in Lakewood. The typical lot size of a home in Lakewood varies from .15 acre to over 2 acres. In 2020 the average home for sale in Lakewood has 3 bedrooms, 3 baths and a 2 car garage with 2600 square feet of living space priced at $756,000 and depending upon the age, size, location and special features of the property will go up from there. The largest sale to date is $4,995,000 for a 10,000 square foot home on nearly 2 acres. Condos and townhomes are a more affordable option.
